Hey! Facebook! Back Off!

I finally (?) got it. Seriously, though? I don’t think my gender is that confusing. I mean, sure, I’ve had an MRA tell me I write like a woman when he mistakenly assumed I was one, but I think my appearance is pretty far from androgynous.

Maybe, just for the hell of it, I should set my gender as female? You know, genderfuck with Facebook a bit?

Hehe. Apparently the problem is less in English but in other languages, it’s creating really nonsensical sentences not to have a gender. They say you can still “opt out,” but it’ll be funky. I wish there was a better way to resolve it, too, but unfortunately grammar hasn’t quite caught up to the fluidity of gender!

I know I’ve already complained to you about this, but Facebook also seems to determine how to advertise to you by gender. I have my gender declared and so while I get ads for wedding services and how to get a “bikini body” in just six weeks, my male partner gets ads for sexy ladies and car shows.

I balked at the request too. I thought for sure I had declared my gender/sex already in signing up for Facebook. And I have also noticed the targeted ads. If only they knew that I was probably the last person to want to plan a wedding or have abs like steel.

When I saw your facebook status (and a few others’) regarding this, I immediately went in and removed my gender from my profile…The next day, I got that message and promptly closed it. I didn’t notice about the targeted ads until I read the comments on here, but now that I think of it it’s definitely an issue! If I didn’t communicate so easily with so many different people through facebook, I would delete it entirely.

Haha, I got one of those too! I just clicked it away, of course … I think it’s funnier that facebook is confused. And I get a wider variety of ads, which is nice insofar as I hate seeing the same ones over and over again.

It’s just Facebook trying to make its statements on the feed and minifeed more correct, seriously don’t look at it like FB is against womans rights, YOU CAN’T READ INTO EVERYTHING.

What? Are you saying Facebook isn’t the embodiment of the Patriarchy? Well, shit, a whole five minutes wasted writing this post!

So who’s this discriminatory against? There’s got to be some kind of victim here!!
