Time For Me to Progress

May 12, 2008

Seeing as I’m able to relax so much more during these four months of summer, even though I begin work tomorrow, I think this is an opportune time to progress with my feminism. And hey, what better time than now? I’m sure many of you are aware that feminism is not in a good place right now.

I’ve been blogging about feminism for nearly a year now. I believe I started really blogging about it last July or some time around there. That’s not very long, when you think about it, but it’s far too long to have, for the most part, failed to address issues of race, class, ability, sexuality, and so on. That’s not okay. Sure, I’ve made some posts, but nothing significant. I can think of reasons (excuses), but none of them are any good.

So, dear readers, I’m going to attempt to cover issues that go beyond sexism (which is still extremely important and will continue to be covered, of course). I want to broaden my critical eye, because I haven’t been doing enough. On that note, too, though, I’m relatively new at this. In other words, I am going to fuck up. There will be times I overlook something and say something that is, well, offensive. So, if you come across something I say that doesn’t quite jive with you, by all means, please bring it up. I will always listen. I also ask for your patience, though, because you don’t get rid of ignorance brought about by privilege overnight. I am trying, and that’s all I can do.
