A judge has recently decided not to send nine men to jail for raping a 10-year-old girl. Her reason? She states that the girl probably agreed to have sex with all of the men. Luckily, it seems many officials are outraged by this as I am and they’re not going to settle with this result. Let’s hope this results in good news. But still, it infuriates me when survivors have to go through humiliation like this. Funny thing that girls and women aren’t interested in sex until they get raped.

I’ve read this on a few other blogs and it really does make me sick to read and even sicker to know that this is really happening. I feel like we’re going back in time,it’s atrocious.

Yeah, after I posted it I noticed it on Feministing and Feministe, and then on a few others. I mean, it’s pretty outrageous. I really hope a better ruling is delivered in the appeal, but it’s still infuriating that anyone would have to go through the humiliation of someone deciding for them that they probably wanted to have sex with their rapist(s), let alone a 10-year-old girl.

When I first read about this story and then about the outrage it caused, one of my first reactions was relief that not everyone is as warped in their judgements as the judge and prosecuter – then sadness and anger that I should actually have to feel relieved about people responding entirely appropriately to the gang rape of a ten year old girl.

I agree. It’s pretty upsetting that it’s a reassuring feeling to know that there are others outraged at such a thing when really that outrage is something that should be considered the norm. I don’t know what else to say on that note. It’s a valid point and certainly a depressing one.
